Kyle Gordon "Kyle Gordon Is Great"

Written by Max Calabrese

Kyle Gordon’s “Kyle Gordon Is Great” released on March 1st, 2024 known infamously for “Planet of the Bass” is incredibly satirical with his parodies of genres like country, pop punk, jazz, pop, folk, and many more.

I really love the realism of “My Life (Is the Worst Life Ever)” being a great satire summary of most pop punk songs and the realization of the use of the word “tonight.” I love the radio station commentary introducing the tracks and especially the characters that portray the performers. A pretty neat touch.

“Planet of the Bass” is a fantastic parody of 90’s dance music with random wild lyrics that impress me with how much they fit together even though they make absolutely no sense haha. What got me the most definitely has to be the goofy awkward phone call outro. The most memorable lyric that’ll indent in your brain will definitely be “Women are my favorite guy.”

I wasn’t expecting “The Irish Drinking Song” and “Wanderin’” to have a wild dark turn in their lyrics. “Wanderin’” will absolutely have you question what you just listened to. I really do appreciate in “The Irish Drinking Song” the disclaimer before the second verse “Now just remember before this next part, I’m actually a really good guy in my personal life” following a graphic description of brutally murdering someone.

10/10 Listen to: “Planet of the Bass,” “My Life (Is the Worst Life Ever),” “Wanderin” and “The Irish Drinking Song”
