Mitski: The Land is Inhospitable and So Are We - Review

By Sage C.

God, I am speechless when it comes to describing the lyricism and art of Mitski. Released on September 15, 2023 it’s her seventh studio album. We got a glimpse of what was to come in July with the single “Bug Like An Angel”. “Bug Like An Angel” I can’t listen to this one without shedding a couple tears. With the use of religious themes (including a gospel backing track), it is a reflection of the narrator’s broken promises and mistakes with alcoholism

Key songs from this dreamy album include:

“My Love Mine All Mine”. Our narrator asks the moon to continue to show their partner love after they’re gone. “I Love Me After You”. We’ve all been there, recovering and healing after a difficult break up. Emotionally riveting. “The Frost” deals with feelings of loneliness. How connection is so crucial and important to the human experience.
